ligaments and bones

Head Musculoskeletal system

Head (Ligaments and bones), anterior viewHead (Ligaments and bones), lateral viewHead (Ligaments and bones), posterior viewHead (Ligaments and bones), medial view

The bones of the skull with the ligaments of the head, including those of the temporomandibular joint.

The temporomandibular joint is reinforced by the lateral (temporomandibular) ligament and supported by the accessory sphenomandibular and stylomandibular ligaments, which limit excessive movement of the mandible. The joint capsule encloses the articular disc, dividing the joint into upper and lower compartments.
